There is a nice piece here on Australian Aboriginal astronomy with links to further articles on the subject. My one objection is the sub-title, which reads as follows, “Astronomy didn’t start with the Greeks. Thousands of years earlier Aboriginal people scanned the night sky, using its secrets to survive the Australian landscape”.
Nobody ever claimed that astronomy started with the Greeks, as it is well known that Greek astronomy is strongly based on Babylonian astronomy. It is also well documented that there was some form of astronomical activity in many early, often pre-literate, cultures, famous examples in Europe being Stonehenge and the Nebra Sky Disc.
I wonder if the Aborigines have a Great Australian Ape star sign?
